Ember and Stone

This uniquely Australian home was born out of a most unlikely combination. Clients G&J came to me with a childhood love for Beauty and The Beast, cherished memories of wandering through ancient gorges and a love affair with camping. The result is a home that celebrates stone, timber, botanicals and the richness of the Australian landscape. It plays upon the idea of shifting of light as you move through towering gorges and the way delicate fern fronds play against rock.

With a demanding professional life, G&J needed a space to breath and reset. Their commitment and trust saw them through a long renovation road including an extension and full home renovation.

Their home design is intended to recentre them and draw them back to life’s quieter moments- sitting by a fire, walking in the bush or simply reading a book. Some of the hero moments include the feeling of showering outside, the scent of a long reclaimed timber wall, a fairy tale library and delicate botanical motifs paired with stone.

Incorporating works and materials by Australian artisans, alongside family photographs taken on their own property, the home fosters a deep sense of belonging and connection to the land.
