The Barn House

Samford Valley

When you’re invited to collaborate with leading local talents such as PentArchi and ArtHaus, the answer is always yes. It was an absolute pleasure to be part of this architectural and interior design collaboration, not only for the craftsmanship evident in every detail but also for the clients’ distinctive sense of style and clarity of vision.

The clients of “Barn House” envisioned a home that would be robust, refined, and deeply connected to its landscape. PentArchi expressed this through an honest material palette of warm recycled brick, black corrugated iron, timber, and burnished concrete floors—materials that anchor the home in its natural surroundings and reflect the essence of modern rural architecture.

To continue the architectural narrative throughout the interiors, I embraced a minimal yet richly textural approach. The kitchen design features Caesarstone Black Tempal benchtops, paper rock cabinetry, and a Calce Venetian plaster splashback, complemented by timber and copper accents for warmth and depth.

The bathrooms were conceived as serene, tactile spaces—finished in a warm monotone tile palette with subtle texture introduced through a chevron brushed concrete tile. Copper and timber elements provide continuity and craftsmanship, adding understated detail to each space.

In contrast, the laundry takes a lighter, fresher direction. White cabinetry and splashback tiles create a sense of clarity, while black detailing—seen in the fine flecks of tile and cabinet hardware—ties the room back to the broader design scheme. Timber and copper elements remain as a familiar thread, and a custom-designed shelf with copper rails, fabricated by the builder, provides a bespoke finishing touch.

The result is a home that feels authentic, enduring, and beautifully balanced—a celebration of Australian materials, architectural integrity, and textural interior design.
