I absolutely love Easter time. Well truthfully I love any celebratory opportunity. But with Easter comes cool crisp mornings, sunny days perfect for picnics and a feeling of slowing. The decorating opportunities are wonderful and can easily be used in your home from a simple sideboard display through to an elaborate table scape. You don’t need to be one of our Brisbane interior designers to create beautiful decorations in your home. Try some of these ideas out or pop into Pinterest (like anyone ever just pops into all absorbing Pinterest lol).
If you don’t want any large fuss some of these ideas are ideal. A gathering of cloches with various greenery and rabbits in them makes a wonderful interesting display. Maintain a simple colour palette throughout but change the types of rabbits for a point of interest. Try Pottery Barn for some beautiful cloches. For something a little more traditional a beautiful bouquet of flowers in Easter colours like pinks, whites, yellows and greens. I can’t go past peonies in a jar wrapped with lace. Pop it on a tray with a scattering of Easter eggs and a candle and you’re done.
Maybe you’re planning an Easter afternoon tea with friends at home. Design a beautiful table garland with Easter eggs and pastel flowers scattered throughout it, perfect for serving cake and tea around. If you’re making a fresh table garland ensure you use hardy plant varieties that won’t mind be left out of water like boxwood, pine, eucalypts, magnolia and rosemary. Include one to two types to give interest through texture. If there is no water source you can either use a dried flower or artificial flowers. Babies breath, thistle, lavender, rose and hydrangeas all dry really well. For table ware and decorations check in with Pottery Barn and Bed Bath n Table. They are always my go to for gorgeous Easter table ware and decorations and really anything interior decorating related.
Don’t forget to involve the kids. Kids make great little interior decorators due to their creative natures. Ask your kids to help you create a beautiful paper garland like the one from Happiness is Homemade. You can buy the paper doilies at Spotlight and they are decorated using water colour paints. They will love the experience and it’s so personal. For some amazing kids craft ideas for kids check out the Ocean Currents link below. HINT- if you’re aiming for a particular colour palette only give them those colours to work with.
Remember that you don’t need a lot to create some seasonal excitement. For parties create one mass display with a couple of accompanying items such as a garland, paper pom poms or additional bouquets of flowers. If you’re just decorating for the season, look for a space in your home that tends to catch the eye and create a smaller nod to the season. Aim to reflect the interior design of your home. If you have a beach home add some rattan or timber. If you have a contemporary home pull back on some of your pastels. Maybe aim for some gold, silver and white eggs. Happy decorating.
